Omnipoint was the fourth-largest PCS licensee in the United States based on pops, having had licenses to serve areas covering nearly 100 million people in the eastern half of the United States.

Omnipoint was acquired by VoiceStream Wireless Corporation in 2000. VoiceStream was subsequently acquired by Deutsche Telekom (NYSE: DT).
